I’m happy to welcome fellow Etopia author Jennifer James today. Read on for an excerpt and don’t miss entering her contest here. You could win a gift card or a swag pack!
Thank you Katya for having me on your site today to share a little bit from my new release Hunger Embraced.
Writing a book with a heroine who feeds on sex means that, well, you write a lot of sex scenes. Girl has to eat! And that’s fun and all good, but for me, one of my favorite things about writing Hunger Embraced wasn’t all the sex (I know, hard to believe, right?). It was the banter and frequent verbal sparring matches the heroine Miranda and the hero Daniel got into. This short excerpt might be considered just a little bit of a spoiler, but I enjoy it so much I had to share! (The words in italics are mind-to-mind/telepathy).
I glanced at the man beside me. Man felt like more and more of a loose term. His aura still blazed in beautiful pureness, but now the colors swirled so much it all looked sort of muddy. Conflicted? It would be tough to tell a girl all kinds of sweet pillow talk, lie through omission about yourself, and let her trust you. Especially when you had to take her into a room full of sex toys that looked more like torture devices so she could be “prepared” to bang a crazy, ugly-as-hell, older-than-Egypt vampire.
I tried to feel sympathy for him but failed in three seconds.
“I told you not to come.”
“Fuck off. Did you really think I’d listen? And I’m not the one who lied about who I was.”
“I never lied.” He crossed his arms and looked down his nose at me.
I crossed my arms and glared back. “Right. Keep hawking that on the street corner, honey. I’m sure someone will be along to buy shortly. A sucker born every—oh, wait, they’re not. That’s why they need me.”
I raised one eyebrow while he continued on in a foreign language, something guttural and harsh. When he stopped I tucked my hair behind my ear and checked my nails. “Finished?”
He snorted and squeezed the bridge of his nose.
***Would you like to be able to talk to your significant other telepathically? How about if you could hear their thoughts or they yours? That might get sticky, huh? *grin***
Jennifer James never thought she would be a multi-published author of erotica and erotic romance. What she likes best are happy endings – whatever that might mean for the characters. Wife, mother of two Tiny Divas, and college student, when not writing Jenn enjoys the outdoors, adventures of all sorts, horror movies, and the occasional comic book.
