Review: Immortal Beginnings: Amara weaves a tragic tale

Immortal Beginnings: Amara is a prequel to a book I haven’t read, but I feel like maybe I should have read it first. This is the tale of Amara, and it is a tragedy, not a love story. From reading the blurb of the first book, The Immortal Scrolls, that seems more like a romance. Now, the fact that this is a tragedy doesn’t mean it isn’t a good book; it just wasn’t what I was expecting. The mythology and historical aspects of it add interest and a feel of epic fantasy to the story.

The writing style is easy to read and approachable, albeit a bit long on description at times. Amara begins as a likable, wronged heroine, but her tragic path left me a bit cold by the end of the book. There is a lot of erotic sex scenes, but they by in large lack real love. I admit that I like happy endings, but it you want a darker read, this book could be right up your alley. I give it 4 cat kisses.

Some curses leave deeper scars… Prequel to The Immortal Scrolls, Immortal Beginnings: Amara sheds light on the character Amara, her tragic origins, her attempts to block her painful past, her desire for power and money, her quest for love and companionship, and her descent into madness. After leaving Britannia for a new life in Herculaneum, the vampire Amara along with her werewolf husband, Tiberius, open a prosperous gladiator school. She amasses unimaginable wealth and power until her selfish desires get in the way. Focused on her new obsession, Amara won’t stop until she gets what she wants.
