Today I’m happy to welcome author JM Stewart, who’s talking about one of my favorite topics: pets!
Thanks for having me, Katya!
When pondering the topic for today’s blog, Katya was kind enough to give me a list of topics that are popular with her readers. Since I think I must be the only writer in the world who doesn’t have a favorite word (I know, I know, strange right?)…I thought I’d share my fur babies with you all.
Now, I can’t begin without introducing you to miss Ruby Jewels. She’s been gone probably close to four years now, but I still miss her very much. I think she’s still with us in spirit. Every once in a while, out the corner of my eye, I still think I see her coming up the hallway.
We got her from another family when she was 5. She was a German Shepherd/Husky mix and the family we got her from said if we were looking for a guard dog, she wasn’t it. Boy were they right. She was afraid of everything. lol She loved kids, though. She often got out of the backyard, and you’d find her around the corner hanging out with the neighbor’s kids. Every Halloween, she’d help me greet the kids at the door. She died at the ripe old age of 14, so she lived a good long life.
When Ruby died, she left a big hole. Six months later, we decided we wanted to fill it. So, we scoured the local shelters and came across this girl. This is Misty. She’s a lab/shepherd mix, and what I didn’t know about the breed when I got her was how energy they were. This dog has grasshopper legs. Can jump straight up and look over the 6 foot privacy fence in the backyard. 🙂
She’s the sweetest thing you’ll ever meet. She greets us like she hasn’t seen us in forever…even if you’ve only been in the shower for 20 minutes. She has a scary sounding bark, has stopped more than a few would-be solicitors in their tracks several feet from the door, but she’s only scary from this side of the door. Open that door and come inside and she’ll high-tail in the opposite direction. 🙂
And last but not least is Tiger. We got her from a shelter also. She’s a Chihuahua/French Bulldog mix and was all of 2.5 pounds when we got her. Tiger is the queen of this house. She’s very smart, and very stubborn. She does what you want…if it suits her. lol She wants to be wherever you are, preferably in your lap, so she’ll often follow me around the house (yup, including into the bathroom). When she wants you to pet her, she’ll reach out a paw and pull at your hand.
But she’s my hubby’s girl. Her favorite place in the whole world is in his arms (who can blame her?). She insists on snuggle time every day when he gets home from work, and he does anything she tells him to. lol
So those are my babies. Tell me about yours!
