Review: Millionaire’s Proposal a sweet story of lost love regained

The Millionaire’s Proposal is a re-release of a book originally published in the 90s. The author has updated this story of Grace and Ford finding love after years apart. It’s a classic high school sweethearts get their stuff together and meet up years later. Grace has always tried to be the good girl her father wanted. When bad boy Ford McCabe comes back to town all grown up and now a millionaire, she can’t deny the flame she’s carried. Ford wants nothing more than to prove to Grace and the town he left that he’s no longer the troubled teen who left town.

This story has nice characterization and moves at a good pace. I found Grace’s extreme trust issues a bit annoying, but for the most part both Grace and Ford are likable and the story believable. The two work well as a couple and both deal with issues to grow as people and a pair. This isn’t the most original story out there, but it’s a sweet story and I enjoyed reading it. I give it four cat kisses.

Grace Holbrook believed she couldn’t have children, but now she was pregnant after just one night with sexy, bad boy Ford McCabe. She was delighted by the news, but not so thrilled when Ford insists they get married, especially when his recent return to Whitaker Falls after eleven years away is shrouded in secrets.

Ford has always wanted Grace. Even back when he was the town rebel and should have known better — until he was blamed for the death of her brother and was shunned by the community. Now a millionaire businessman, he’s back to claim what is rightfully his . . . including Grace and the baby they’d created together.

Review: Latest Invitation to Eden offerings don’t disappoint

Review: Pleasure Point

This story features pastry chef Miranda, who runs the pastry kitchen at the Eden Resort, and Roan, a design consultant and Dom. Miranda had been in a submissive relationship with her former husband, who passed away in an accident. Roan lost his wife to cancer and since then has been closed off to love, using his role as a Dom to maintain careful distance. When the two are set up by the resort’s mysterious owner, they both find their walls coming down.
Eden Bradley has a lush writing style that paints a scene with the little details. She captures the power play between Roan and Miranda, as they both effect each other more than either bargained for. Miranda is a sassy, strong woman. Roan is a Dom with a lot of tenderness underlying the commanding exterior. The result is a tantalizing love story.
My only criticism of this book is some sloppy proofreading, although I’ve seen far worse. In the end, it only mildly detracted from the story. I’d give this novella 4.5 cat kisses.

Review: Wild Ride

Where Pleasure Point was a more traditional love story, Wild Ride is very erotic and involves multiple partners and bad-ass bikers. Marissa is on the run after believing her ex-boyfriend an accomplish to murder. She is surprised to run into him at Eden, and flees from him, only to end up on another man’s bike. Killer takes her to a secluded villa on the island and the two begin to learn to trust one another.
I don’t read a lot of multiple partner romance, but this was a pretty decent story. It’s definitely got a lot of sex. The writing style is fast-paced and the story is fairly short. I give it four cat kisses.

Meet the Authors

Hi. I’m Opal Carew, a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. I write erotic romance for St. Martin’s Press and Samhain Publishing, and I self-publish stories. I also write romance as Amber Carew.

So why do I like writing erotic romance? I like being able to push beyond traditional boundaries. I like dealing with a female character who is growing and evolving – questioning her sexual boundaries and pushing past them. My stories usually include menage a trois. It is great fun to write a heroine choosing between two equally appealing heroes… or more.

These aren’t women who just jump into bed with anyone. They find themselves in an unusual situation – something exciting and erotic – but a situation where they have to push themselves beyond their comfort level. As a result, they grow as a person. So often fear holds us back – of what others will think of us, of what we will think about ourselves – and we don’t follow our hearts. These women push past that fear.

Review: Unforgettable a memorable love story

Unforgettable tells the story of May/December romance between divorcee Krista and long-time bachelor Neil. I thought this might be like a lot of the rich man sweeping a middle class woman off her feet, but it wasn’t. I was pleasantly surprised that Neil and Krista met in the middle. They both made compromises and adjustments as they found their common group to build and grow their relationship.

I liked Krista and her best friend. The introduction of the ex-husband into the story was done in a way that added to the story and didn’t feel like he was there simply as a foil to her new love interest. There were times that Neil’s dialogue felt off. He’d use words like awesome and like in their slang connotation that didn’t seem to fit with a millionaire businessman in his mid-forties. His reaction to Krista’s surprise at the end also felt too easy and the whole thing a bit cliche.

This was a good read with some nice character development, especially for a shorter book. I give it four cat kisses.

Krista jogged to catch up with her friend. At the entrance, a big man stood there in the classic get-up. Sunglasses, a black shirt, and tight jeans. He was hot and Krista wondered if she could stay out there with him because he looked more like her type.

“Good evening, ladies. I need to see some ID.” He held out his hand.

She dug hers out of her wallet and handed it to him. He glanced at the I.D.’s, smiled, and gave them back.

“Enjoy your evening.”

Jamie looped her arm through Krista’s and they were on their way to what felt like the unknown to Krista.

Inside was dark as expected, but there was just enough lighting so she wouldn’t trip over anything. There were a lot of women there. Apparently her friend wasn’t the only one with a thing for older men.

There was a small dance floor to her left, but it was mostly set up with various lounge areas. A contemporary feel flowed throughout with black leather sofas, red-and-white throw pillows, and chrome décor. The bar sat in the center of the room, and Krista was thrilled when Jamie led her in that direction.

A female bartender, who was surprisingly dressed conservative in a white button down blouse, greeted them. “What can I get you?”

“Two sex on the beaches,” Jamie said.

“Suck up.” Krista leaned her back against the bar and glanced around. She didn’t see a man anywhere without a young, beautiful woman at his side. Next to the attached women, she felt like she was wearing a paper sack. Not a man looked in her direction.  “I bet all the good ones are taken.”

Jamie twirled a lock of her blonde hair as she checked out the men. “Why do you say that?”

“With the amount of women in here, any man without one at this point must be a loser.”

“Or he’s just waiting on the right woman.” Jamie winked.

The bartender returned with their drinks. Jamie told her to leave the tab open.

“Now what?” Krista asked as she picked up her beverage.

“Let’s find somewhere to sit, drink a little to lighten our mood, and go from there. This doesn’t need to be planned out.”

“This is so stupid.” Krista took a sip of her drink. “It feels like we’re waiting for some man to find us attractive and want to talk to us. It’s just weird.”

Her friend sighed. “Live a little. Jeez. How well has it been working out with the men your own age?”

Jamie had a point. “But still,” Krista protested halfheartedly.

“If you want to leave, I’ll give you my keys. I’m not going to force you to stay.”

“I might.” A deep masculine voice sounded from behind them.

A shiver swept down Krista’s spine. Her heart rate sped up and it felt like slow motion as she spun around to see who had spoken to her. Oh. My. God! She laid eyes on one of the most gorgeous men she’d ever seen. He put George Clooney to shame.

“Would you gorgeous ladies care to join me?” He motioned toward an empty couch.

“We’d love to.” Jamie smiled.

Krista attempted to speak, but no words were forming as she followed them over. She expected Jamie to sit next to the sexy man and keep him for herself, but instead, her friend left a gap for Krista to sit in the middle.

“I’m Neil.” He took a sip from his drink. The light gold liquid flowed to his lips and Krista found herself jealous of the glass.

“I’m Jamie, and this is my friend Krista Michaels.”

Why the heck did Jamie just given him my last name?

Neil rested his glass on the armrest. He was at ease and in his comfort zone as he straightened his light blue tie. “It’s nice to meet you both. First time here?”

“Yes. Though it’s a relatively new place. Have you been here much?” Jamie asked.

“A few times. I’m friends with the owner.” His gaze stayed on Krista.

She stared back, mesmerized by him. He had dark hair with slight streaks of grey at the temple. Not too much, just was the right amount. Perfect. Like him. Now if only she could speak, she might get somewhere.

“What do you do for a living?” He spun the glass around with his fingers.

“We’re both teachers,” Jamie answered.

His eyes widened. “This must be your favorite time of the year. Summer vacation.”

“It is.” Jamie poked Krista in the side.

Krista nodded since for whatever reason, her mouth still wasn’t working.

“Are you always so quiet?” Neil smirked. A tiny dimple formed on his chin. She loved a man with dimples.

“Usually she won’t shut up.” Jamie giggled. “What’s up, Krista?”

“I love your name by the way.” His blue eyes locked on her.

“Thank you.” She finally managed a word.

He took a long drink then set the cup down on the table. He sat back, pulling one leg up and resting his ankle on the opposite knee. “I’m going to be frank. When I see something I like, I go after it. And I like what I see, Krista. Are you single?”

His bluntness caused a wave of pleasure to ripple though her. “I am.”

“I’m attracted to you very much, but I don’t want to waste my time if you don’t feel the same.” He paused, staring at her with a longing in his eyes. Finally, he moistened his lips.  “That isn’t entirely true. If you weren’t interested in me, I’d try harder. I don’t like not getting what I want, and I want you.”

Review: One Day Soon an entertaining, quick read

One Day Soon by Edie Hart is a quick read that mixes a bit of suspense with a blooming romance. When realtor Lexi witnesses a murder, she soon finds her life threatened by the group of thieves behind the shooting. Enter Detective Jonathon Burgess, who is assigned to the case and in charge of protecting Lexi. He also happens to be the best friend of Lexi’s overprotective older brother, who is currently deployed.

The story is straightforward and not terribly original, but it did its job of keeping me entertained. The attraction between the two smolders to the end. The bad-guy reveal had an element of surprise. Overall, this is another novella by Ms. Hart that is a good read. I give it four cat kisses.

Meet Edie

Edie Hart was born in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, where she now resides with her husband, two children, dog, and three cats. After spending her childhood making up stories in her head, she finally decided to put them on paper. What came of it was her first novella, One Bad Day. Edie is a die-hard romantic and believes that everyone deserves to be loved unconditionally–both in print and real life.

Edie also admits that “Edie Hart” is a pen name and an alter ego to an otherwise boring wife and mother. Edie is 20 pounds lighter, loves to skydive, travels to foreign places, and is a total sex kitten as compared to the uninteresting other half who is none of those things.

In reality the counterpart of Edie is a lackluster 40-something-year-old, whose main goal is to keep The Big One (The Boy) from torturing The Little One (The Girl). This week he hit her in the head with a 12-pack of Juicy Juice. Last week he left ravioli handprints on the back of her white T-shirt. The week before that he told her she was adopted and she believed him.

Review: Immortal Beginnings: Amara weaves a tragic tale

Immortal Beginnings: Amara is a prequel to a book I haven’t read, but I feel like maybe I should have read it first. This is the tale of Amara, and it is a tragedy, not a love story. From reading the blurb of the first book, The Immortal Scrolls, that seems more like a romance. Now, the fact that this is a tragedy doesn’t mean it isn’t a good book; it just wasn’t what I was expecting. The mythology and historical aspects of it add interest and a feel of epic fantasy to the story.

The writing style is easy to read and approachable, albeit a bit long on description at times. Amara begins as a likable, wronged heroine, but her tragic path left me a bit cold by the end of the book. There is a lot of erotic sex scenes, but they by in large lack real love. I admit that I like happy endings, but it you want a darker read, this book could be right up your alley. I give it 4 cat kisses.
