R: Review of Power Shift by Cassandra Carr

Power Shift is a novella about a married couple in a relationship rut after twelve years. Cissy decides to shake things up and take a more dominant role in their love life.

This was a pretty good read. There just aren’t enough books about long-term relationships. I enjoyed the tension between the psychological and physical reactions of the characters as they explored a whole new world of sexual games. At times, the details about the research they both do feels a little technical, but in some ways I liked that they were both being practical about their sexual explorations. It showed how serious they were—Cissy especially—about saving their marriage.

My biggest criticism of Power Shift is that the ending felt very abrupt. I wanted to read more of their story as they continued to work on their marital problems and rebuild their relationship both in and out of bed. As it was left, I wondered if they’d really be able to work everything out after their promising initial steps. For that reason, I have to give this novella 4 cat kisses.

Sometimes a wife has to go to extreme measures to save her marriage.

When Cissy Holden doesn’t feel appreciated, she takes matters into her own hands and introduces her wayward husband Len to a new way of life wherein she makes the decisions–and the rules. Will Len give up control or has Cissy just made the biggest mistake of her life?

About the Author

Cassandra Carr is a multi-award winning romance and action adventure writer. When not working, she enjoys watching hockey, Arrow, and a select few other shows, or hanging out online. Cassandra’s books have won numerous “Best Book Of” awards and her novella Power Shift was nominated in the E-book Erotic Romance category of RT’s Reviewers’ Choice 2013 Awards.

She thinks the best part of being a writer is penning stories about love, adventure, and sex while most others struggle with commutes, micro-managing bosses and cranky co-workers. There isn’t enough money in the world that would entice her to join Corporate America again. She and her muse are sublimely happy doing their own thing.

Wyn Sander is surprised when his brother Kyle asks him to be best man at his wedding. Wyn’s even more shocked to learn the woman who later walks into his garage is Ronnie’s half-sister, Iona. He’s instantly attracted to her. She’s sophisticated, beautiful, and confident. At least she is until Wyn stands up. She flinches and a look of terror passes over her face. It bothers him to see. Luckily, desire replaces it, but it doesn’t stop Wyn’s curiosity. For the first time in his life, he wants to find out what made Iona fearful and fix it.

Iona can’t believe her luck. The man she lusts after is her new sister’s soon to be brother-in-law. The kiss they share shatters her, but her attempt to stop any involvement with him ends up with her agreeing to three dates. She decides Wyn is unlike any man she’s ever known, and it’s unfortunate she can’t enjoy him. She isn’t in the market for a boyfriend. All she wants is sex. The only problem is—she doesn’t think Wyn sees things her way.

Excerpt

She jerked her hand from his. “Where are we going?”

“Basement. Need you.” He reached for her.

She backed up. “We can’t. Your mom—”

He drew her against him. “You feel that? How hard I am?”

A soft sigh escaped her lips, his only answer.

He brushed his fingertip across them. “I ache, darling.”

She turned her head and sucked one of his fingers into her mouth. The tug connected with his balls. He wrenched his finger free and cupped her face between his hands. “I’m going to take you downstairs and fuck you, Iona. Hard and fast.” Her eyes widened. He loved the shock displayed in them. He brushed his lips over hers. “Then tonight, you’re coming home with me, and I’m going to love you real slow, until you beg me to fill you up.”

She shook her head. “No sleepovers. No commitments. I told you that. Besides, your mom is picking me up early. We’re going shopping.”

Her words danced through his head. Disappointment hit first, then excitement flared. “You didn’t say no to now.”

She swallowed hard. “I don’t know. I want you, but…”

“But what?”

She glanced in the direction of the living room. “What if somebody walks in on us? Your family will assume we’re in a relationship.”

“Nobody will catch us.” With a single finger, he turned her face toward him. “Do you trust me?”

Her cautious nod answered him.

“Good.” That was all he needed to know. He lifted her, a hand on her bottom.

“Wyn—”

He nipped her lip. “Quiet. We only have a few minutes.” He pulled the basement door shut behind them and turned the lock. “And I’m not wasting them talking.”

“You’re serious.” Her whisper matched her widened eyes.

He hurried down the stairs and dropped her bottom on the back of the sofa. “Yeah. I don’t think I’ll survive a whole day without you.”

She clutched at his shirt. “Oh.”

One word. Damn he loved how she reacted to him. He popped the button on her shorts and tugged the zipper. She lifted her bottom. No hesitation. No denial. He held her acceptance close.

“Next time, I’ll worship you. Head to toe. Eat you out. Lick your breasts. Give you everything.” Hand fisted around her waistband, he glanced at her. “You want that?”

She nodded. “Yes. I want.”

“Good, but tonight I need you. Just like this.”

About the Author

A true romantic at heart, Nancy Corrigan is convinced there’s a knight in shining armor for every woman (or man), but you won’t find damsels in distress in her stories. She adores pairing alpha heroes with women strong enough to match them and bring them to their knees. She also enjoys flipping the traditional roles in romances because her motto is—love and people should never be forced to conform to anyone’s norm.

She holds a degree in chemistry and has worked in research but now focuses on ensuring quality. She considers it the perfect outlet for her as she’s the first to admit she has some OCD tendencies. It carries over into her writing life too. While engrossed in a novel, she has a habit of forgetting to eat and sleep. Fortunately, she’s married to her own knight in shining armor who understands her oddities and loves her anyway. They reside in Pennsylvania with their three children, dog, snake and guinea pigs. Her other interests include tattoos, animals, classic cars and all things spooky and sexy.

Review: The Capture blends sweet and erotic aspects of long-term love

The Capture is the latest Invitation to Eden story. It also happens to be part of Erika Wilde’s Marriage Diaries series, which follows Jillian and Dean as they rekindle their passion after twenty years of marriage. This story has some smoking hot scenes, like all the Invitation to Eden stories. There is a nice balance between playing out the couple’s sexual fantasy and seeing them as themselves. This is a quick read that is as sweet as it is erotic. I give it 4 cat kisses.

You can also check out my reviews of some earlier offerings in the series here.

There isn’t much that Jillian Noble can resist when it comes to her sexy, gorgeous husband, Dean.  She’s become very independent in her daily life, but privately, behind closed doors, Jillian finds she loves submitting to her husband’s more dominant, erotic demands.

When Dean surprises her with an Invitation to Eden and promises to fulfill one of her secret fantasies, she can’t wait to find out what’s in store.  While on the mysterious island, she’s auctioned off to a rogue pirate and imprisoned as his slave. What he commands of her is shocking, but there is no denying this dark, forbidden stranger, or the exquisite pleasure that comes with her ultimate surrender.

About the Author

Erika Wilde (aka Janelle Denison) is the USA Today bestselling author of over 50 contemporary romances for multiple print publishers.

So, why the new pen name?

As Janelle Denison I’ve always written sexy books, but lately my writing has taken on more erotic elements that I wanted to keep separate for readers because not everyone likes their reading material on the spicier, kinkier side of romance. However, please be assured that even as Erika Wilde, you will still get an emotionally layered story with characters you’ll care about and fall in love with. That is always my goal, whether I’m writing straight contemporary romances, or more erotically charged stories.

Currently, I’m working on The Marriage Diaries and making sure that Dean and Jillian enjoy exploring the more erotic side to their marriage. The series will be on-going, with no foreseeable ending as of right now, for as long as readers want to be voyeurs to Dean and Jillian’s sizzling new relationship.

I’m also planning a spin-off series in the future, featuring the hot military men that work security for Dean at Noble and Associates. Sign up to receive my newsletter for updates and news!

Excerpt:

Grace took hold of his wrists and molded his palms to her breasts. The feel of his calluses tightened her nipples into stiff buds. How does a high-end lawyer get calluses? “Did you like being tied up?”

His body tensed. “Why are you asking?”

She rose up slightly then settled back onto his thickening cock. “Don’t beg the question, counselor. Answer it. Did you like it?”

He frowned and averted his gaze. She lifted off him then kept herself suspended over him with his tip just inside her cunt. He growled and thrust his hips up. She hoisted herself higher to keep him from embedding himself inside her. His fingers flexed around her breasts. He thrust harder, but she stayed out of reach.

“Answer me,” she cooed. “Did you like it?”

His face crumpled with palpable aggravation as the tendons in his neck protruded. “Yes,” he finally gritted out.

“And you’re not happy about liking it, are you?” She kept a nonthreatening tone.

“Not particularly.”

She rewarded his truthfulness by lowering slowly onto his cock. “Don’t you like giving up control?”

“Does anyone?”

“If done right, it can be very freeing. Can you honestly tell me that you didn’t come like a fire hose before?” She circled her hips which elicited another gurgled groan from him.

“No.”

“Then let go. Trust me, baby. I’ll keep you safe.”

She freed his hands. He kept them on her breasts for a long count of five, then slowly raised them over his head…
