Review: Latest Invitation to Eden offerings don’t disappoint

Review: Pleasure Point

This story features pastry chef Miranda, who runs the pastry kitchen at the Eden Resort, and Roan, a design consultant and Dom. Miranda had been in a submissive relationship with her former husband, who passed away in an accident. Roan lost his wife to cancer and since then has been closed off to love, using his role as a Dom to maintain careful distance. When the two are set up by the resort’s mysterious owner, they both find their walls coming down.
Eden Bradley has a lush writing style that paints a scene with the little details. She captures the power play between Roan and Miranda, as they both effect each other more than either bargained for. Miranda is a sassy, strong woman. Roan is a Dom with a lot of tenderness underlying the commanding exterior. The result is a tantalizing love story.
My only criticism of this book is some sloppy proofreading, although I’ve seen far worse. In the end, it only mildly detracted from the story. I’d give this novella 4.5 cat kisses.

Review: Wild Ride

Where Pleasure Point was a more traditional love story, Wild Ride is very erotic and involves multiple partners and bad-ass bikers. Marissa is on the run after believing her ex-boyfriend an accomplish to murder. She is surprised to run into him at Eden, and flees from him, only to end up on another man’s bike. Killer takes her to a secluded villa on the island and the two begin to learn to trust one another.
I don’t read a lot of multiple partner romance, but this was a pretty decent story. It’s definitely got a lot of sex. The writing style is fast-paced and the story is fairly short. I give it four cat kisses.

Meet the Authors

Hi. I’m Opal Carew, a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. I write erotic romance for St. Martin’s Press and Samhain Publishing, and I self-publish stories. I also write romance as Amber Carew.

So why do I like writing erotic romance? I like being able to push beyond traditional boundaries. I like dealing with a female character who is growing and evolving – questioning her sexual boundaries and pushing past them. My stories usually include menage a trois. It is great fun to write a heroine choosing between two equally appealing heroes… or more.

These aren’t women who just jump into bed with anyone. They find themselves in an unusual situation – something exciting and erotic – but a situation where they have to push themselves beyond their comfort level. As a result, they grow as a person. So often fear holds us back – of what others will think of us, of what we will think about ourselves – and we don’t follow our hearts. These women push past that fear.

To learn more about me and my books:

New York Times & USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author Eden Bradley aka Eve Berlin writes dark, edgy erotic fiction. Her work has been called ‘elegant, intelligent and sensual’. Her debut novel, THE DARK GARDEN, has been praised as ‘a masterpiece’, and was a Romantic Times Top Pick, as was her erotic novel, FORBIDDEN FRUIT. Her novel THE LOVERS was called ‘…the thinking woman’s erotica…’.

Eden sold four novels and a novella to Bantam, as well as a novella to Berkley, before her first novel even hit the shelves, and Bantam contracted two more novels from her the moment her debut book was released. Her novels and novellas written as Eden and Eve have collectively been translated into German, Romanian, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Czech, Polish and Japanese.

Eden has appeared regularly on Sirius Satellite’s Playboy Radio show, Night Calls, and has participated in round-table podcast and radio discussions. She has also been a regular guest at the West Coast In the Flesh readings in Hollywood. Eden has conducted  a number of workshops and served on panels on writing craft and writing sex at several chapters of Romance Writers of America, at the RWA Nationals Conference, at the Romantic Times Convention and at library and independent writer’s groups.

Eden has published a number of articles on writing and has written both print and e-books for Berkley Heat, Bantam/Delta, Harlequin Spice and HQN, and Samhain Publishing. She has also written erotic romance for Berkley Heat as Eve Berlin. Her debut Heat novel, PLEASURE’S EDGE, won the 2010 Holt Medallion Award for best Erotic Romance, and her self-published Box Set, RIDING DESIRE, hit the New York Times and USA Today Best Seller lists in February, 2014 with her story OBSESSION.

Review: Immortal Beginnings: Amara weaves a tragic tale

Immortal Beginnings: Amara is a prequel to a book I haven’t read, but I feel like maybe I should have read it first. This is the tale of Amara, and it is a tragedy, not a love story. From reading the blurb of the first book, The Immortal Scrolls, that seems more like a romance. Now, the fact that this is a tragedy doesn’t mean it isn’t a good book; it just wasn’t what I was expecting. The mythology and historical aspects of it add interest and a feel of epic fantasy to the story.

The writing style is easy to read and approachable, albeit a bit long on description at times. Amara begins as a likable, wronged heroine, but her tragic path left me a bit cold by the end of the book. There is a lot of erotic sex scenes, but they by in large lack real love. I admit that I like happy endings, but it you want a darker read, this book could be right up your alley. I give it 4 cat kisses.

Some curses leave deeper scars… Prequel to The Immortal Scrolls, Immortal Beginnings: Amara sheds light on the character Amara, her tragic origins, her attempts to block her painful past, her desire for power and money, her quest for love and companionship, and her descent into madness. After leaving Britannia for a new life in Herculaneum, the vampire Amara along with her werewolf husband, Tiberius, open a prosperous gladiator school. She amasses unimaginable wealth and power until her selfish desires get in the way. Focused on her new obsession, Amara won’t stop until she gets what she wants.

Turns out there is some residual energy in me… #OurSexyYear

293a6-headerforlynn_sexysaturdayIt’s a celebration on this My Sexy Saturday, which has been going strong for a year now! This week I’m sharing a snippet from To Growl or to Groan, book 2 in the Hidden Lines series. It’s currently available as an ebook for only $3.99. Book 1 is still on sale for 99 cents.

He wastes no time taking care of me in another way since we’ve been waiting long enough on the train and then the taxi ride here, not to mention the time it took to check in. I’m so ready I can practically feel myself orgasming just from his touch.

When he runs his tongue up my slit and over my clit, I shudder and jerk up so hard most of my back loses contact with the bed. He’s going to fucking kill me with his tongue. That’s all it will take. Not that I’m complaining—at all.

His tongue continues its work with renewed vigor, laving my clit until I’m one tightly wound nerve centered under his tongue. Nothing else is reality but the connection happening at my core. I rise higher and higher toward the pinnacle where I will explode.

Then he adds a finger, two, and my screams are deafening. The profanity flies freely from my mouth so fast it’s impossible to understand what I’m saying. Not that I care.

He pulls back and I melt into the bed, my eyes closed, my body a pile of useless muscles. I’m sure I have no energy left in me. Not even an ounce.

He slides his body up mine, leaving a trail of wet kisses and a tingling warmth in the wake of his sensuous mouth and hands. His touch sparks me to life, my body writhing of its own accord, my hips rising to increase contact with his body.

Turns out there is some residual energy in me. My tongue traces a path from behind his ear to his shoulder, where I lightly nip him. His taste is exquisite, a blend of man and spice. He moans under my touch. I wrap my legs around him, pulling him closer to me. Any space is too much.

She’s unready to face her past, but she may have no choice.

It may be her best friend who gets surprisingly accurate hunches about the future, but Chloe just  knows something big –and bad—is about to happen. She telepathically communicates with animals and shape-shifters, but her growing psychic abilities are beginning to scare her. She suspects her mother also had abilities, and when those powers grew beyond her control, she left her daughter and husband when Chloe was only ten.

Despite her worries, she won’t let anything interrupt her trip to Scotland to meet her shape-shifter boyfriend’s family. Meeting Jorge’s close-knit family and spending the Holidays with them is worry enough!

When his sister goes missing, her disappearance is linked to a shadowy organization that knows exactly how to hide her from her shape-shifting relatives’ tracking ability. What they don’t count on is Chloe’s psychic gift.

In the rush to find Jorge’s sister, Chloe loses control of her ability and accidentally harms an animal’s psyche. Ridden with guilt, she’s afraid her ability just might destroy her relationship with Jorge. She isn’t ready to find her mother and face her past, but she may not have a choice if she wants to ensure she never harms anyone again.

What readers are saying about To Growl or to Groan:

4* from Sizzling Hot Books: “If you like shapeshifters, some sexy romance, and a good mystery as well then I would definitely recommend To Growl Or To Groan.”

“I enjoyed reading more in this book about Chloe’s exploration of her abilities and past as well as her HOT relationship with Jorge. I will be looking for more from this author for sure. This book is a light and fun read with adventure, passion and a few unexpected twists and turns. Highly recommend reading this book.”

“I liked the twist with the shifter and non-shifter relationships in this book. It made it refreshing to read. I thought Katya Armock did a great job with the storyline and I was kept interested from the very beginning.”

Best known for her many novels for the pioneering British erotica publisher Black Lace, her work has been praised for its intense character-driven sensuality and the vivid emotional depth. Portia has been writing for publication since 1990, and has had over twenty five novels and 100+ short stories published. In addition to her writing for Black Lace and Harlequin, she’s also worked with a variety of other publishers including Samhain Publishing and Carina Press. She was formerly a librarian and has also worked in local government.

Madelynne Ellis is a multi-published British author of erotic romance. Her novels and short stories have been published by a variety of houses both in the UK and US, and have been translated into German, Spanish and Norwegian. She is best known for her Regency set novels for pioneering British erotica publisher Black Lace, but also enjoys writing contemporary and paranormal settings. Her aim is to deliver scorching, character-driven stories that enchant, torment and don’t shy from darker aspects of life.
Madelynne lives in the UK with her partner of 20 years, their two adorable children and a chocoholic rabbit. When not writing she enjoys live role-playing, solving puzzles and hanging out online.

Marie Hart has been writing as far back as she can remember. Interest in the written word, no doubt spawned by her English teacher father, continues to this day. She’s a voracious reader, gobbling everything from romance to horror to fantasy and more. She’s in love with the art of putting pen to paper…so to speak.

She majored in English from Penn State University, earning a B.A. in Liberal Arts, as well as a commission in the United States Marine Corps. Five years later, after serving as a communications officer, she left the service to focus more on family. After going through an assortment of jobs–the Marine Corps Reserve, an IT representative, a middle manager for a Fortune 500 transportation company–she stopped working to raise two new additions to the family–her youngest sons. During this period, she decided to stop dreaming and start seriously writing.

In December of 2004 her first story was published, and she hasn’t looked back since. She currently has over a hundred titles with Carina, Ellora’s Cave, Fated Desires, Loose Id, Samhain, Sourcebooks, and Totally Bound.

She’s received several awards including: the 2005 Passionate Plume for Scifi/fantasy romance, the 2006 Amber Quill Heat Wave contest winner, 1st Place in Steamy Erotic romance for the 2006 Lories, finalist in the 2007 Linda Howard Award of Excellence, finalist in the 2008 Reveal Your Inner Vixen MRWA contest, and finalist in the 2012 Reveal Your Inner Vixen MRWA contest.

Joey W. Hill writes about vampires, mermaids, boardroom executives, cops, witches, angels, simple housemaids… If there’s an erotic love story to be told, she’ll take the plunge. As a result, she’s proud and humbled to have five series and over thirty award-winning and highly acclaimed titles, as well as the support and enthusiasm of a wonderful and widely diverse readership. In 2011, she was awarded a Career Achievement award in Erotica by RTBookReviews.

According to her personal memo book, seen only by her eyes–probably because it would reveal that she loves the Partridge Family and the moviePure Country–the top three ways to ensure her readers continue to come looking for her books are #1 Write a great story, #2 KEEP writing great stories and #3 “For the love of God, don’t let them get to know the author – that will scare them away.” (Particularly if they find out about the Partridge Family.)

She has become known for writing the type of erotic romance that not only wins her fans of that genre, but readers who would “never” read BDSM romance. That’s because first and foremost, she thinks what attracts a reader is strong characters. “Whatever genre you’re writing, if the characters are compelling and sympathetic, the readers are going to want to see what happens to them. While I strive to make sure my work includes essential elements of the storytelling craft – tight plot, engaging dialogue, etc. – if the character development isn’t there, there isn’t much point in reading. It can be the coolest plot ever, but if the reader could care less whether the hero or heroine survive (in fact, in some cases you may be rooting for their destruction just so you can be done with the darn thing), then it’s not a story worth reading.”

Why is that? She believes that our world is an ironically isolating one. Humans have overrun the planet, armed with a plethora of communication tools. Yet we feel very alone in our own heads, trying to make a connection with someone. The “ah, there you are – where have you been?” person. The person who gives us an anchor, but also the courage to release our tedious baggage to embrace ourselves fully.

That’s what she seeks to accomplish in every story. Bringing characters together who have numerous emotional obstacles standing in their way, watching them reach a soul-deep understanding of one another through the expression of their darkest sexual needs, and then growing from that understanding into love.

So why erotic romance? “Writing great erotic romance is all about exploring the true face of who we are – the best and worst – which typically comes out in the most vulnerable moments of sexual intimacy.” Who wouldn’t want to write about that?
How does she accomplish that? She suspects it’s the perfection of a Vulcan mind meld with the characters, which takes an effective mix of manic depression, schizophrenia and obsessive compulsive behavior that would make “Monk” look like a light weight. Not to mention the broad streak of romanticism that forms an asphalt four-lane highway through her heart. It’s a tendency that sends her back to her favorite book and movie scenes for toe-curling or tear-inducing inspiration. (Her husband reports this with loving resignation, since he’s often called upon to stoically endure the movie scenes and hold her hand while she weeps through the mushy parts.)

TJ Michaels picked up her first romance novel, a book by Heather Graham, back in 1994. It was love at first page. She thought, “I love this! I can write this, I know I can.” And she sat down and wrote a book full of alpha guys and their kick butt women. That book sat on a shelf while TJ raised her kids and established her career.

One day her son asked, “Hey mom, when are you going to do something with that big book you wrote when I was little?” After cocking her head sideways and giving it some thought, TJ sat down and wrote what became her first published work. She hasn’t looked back, though she does still ask her kids for suggestions.

TJ is now an award-winning author of several romance genres, including paranormal, fantasy, sci-fi and urban fantasy romance. Writing like a madman, TJ hasn’t lost steam. Her mind? Yep, that’s gone, but steam there is a-plenty. A true Taurus, TJ isn’t slowing down and she’s definitely too stubborn to stop when she sees the fence!

No matter the genre TJ is penning, her favorite thing to do is build worlds. To take you somewhere extraordinary. To transport you to a place where you can close your eyes and slip into your fantasy…

Kate Pearce was born into a large family of girls in England, and spent much of her childhood living very happily in a dream world. Despite being told that she really needed to ‘get with the program’, she graduated from the University College of Wales with an honors degree in history.

After graduation, real life did intervene and she ended up working in finance which was not the greatest career choice for a would-be writer!

A move to the USA finally allowed her to fulfill her dreams and sit down and write that novel. Along with being a voracious reader, Kate loves trail riding with her family, ‘western style’ in the regional parks of Northern California.

Kate writes in several different romance sub-genres under different names. She is a member of RWA and is published by Kensington Aphrodisia, Ellora’s Cave and Virgin Black Lace/Cheek.

USA Today Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan never thought she’d be a writer. Not really. No, she loved math and science and even went on to graduate school in chemistry. Yes, she read as a kid and devoured teen fiction and Harry Potter, but it wasn’t until someone handed her a romance book in her late teens that she realized that there was something out there just for her. When another author suggested she use the voices in her head for good and not evil, The Redwood Pack and all her other stories were born.

Carrie Ann is a bestselling author of over twenty novels and novellas and has so much more on her mind (and on her spreadsheets *grins*) that she isn’t planning on giving up her dream anytime soon.

Gifted with a salacious imagination, National Bestselling Author Sasha White’s brand of Romance with Heat, and Erotica with Heart is all about sassy women and sexy men. With a voice that is called “distinctive and delicious” by The Romance Studio, this Canadian author has become a reader favorite.

A true eclectic heart Sasha was born in Calgary, Alberta and raised all over Western Canada. The travel bug has stayed with her and ever since she left home she’s continue to go wherever opportunity leads. That includes travelling through some of the United States, as well as Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Nepal, Singapore, Mexico, South Africa, Mozambique, Swaziland and Greece. Aside from Mexico, Greece, and the States, her travels have been for months at time, living out of a backpack while exploring these countries, learning about their cultures and often volunteering at schools in exchange for room and board.

After over 20 years as a waitress/bartender, Sasha now works full-time as a writer. She’s says “I learned how to build well-developed, realistic characters from exploring cultures, including our own when serving millions of drinks to millions of people. I’ll talk to pretty much anyone, and more importantly, listen to them. Writing feeds my brain. Traveling feeds my soul.”

Emily Ryan-Davis is a lifelong East Coaster whose passion for the written word saw her through jobs writing obituaries, press releases and grants before she decided “I’m going to do this” and sat down to write a book. And then she wrote a book. Several, actually, in a variety of steamy romance sub-genres.

Life has undergone many changes since that first book. Now she spends her days writing full-time and parenting even-fuller-time. All the usual author loves apply, with chocolate, coffee and cats at the top the list.

Jennifer Leeland loved Harlequin romances when she was little and used to sneak them from her mother’s bookshelf. But her father influenced me with Agatha Christie, Ngiao Marsh and Arthur Conan Doyle. She wrote her first completed novel in 2005 and never looked back.

She has a special relationship with her characters, who both annoy and inspire her. And yes, they talk to her. In the shower. In the car. When she’s trying to sleep. Many have asked me why she writes erotic romance. She says, “Believe me, it would probably be easier to write something my mom could tell her friends about. But I love the emotion, the conflict, the possibilities contained in erotic romance. When I read, I want to indulge in fantasies. I hope I can do the same for others.”

She lives with a Redneck, who loves to brainstorm with her on occasion, and her two dirt faced Okie kids in the Northern California Boonies. She’s published with Cobblestone Press, Liquid Silver Books, Loose-Id LLC., Samhain Publishing, and Whiskey Creek Press. She’s a moderator for the award winning writer’s forum Romance Divas where she’s been a member since 2006.

The Allure of Androids: Guest post by Adera Orfanelli

In Abducted the heroine falls in love with a very life-like android, except he can do a few things that human males can’t do. I won’t spoil the fun surprise, but let’s just say it’s sure a feature every woman wishes she had in her boyfriend, mechanized or not.

I’m old enough to remember the way that the knowledge of Data (from Star Trek: The Next Generation) being “fully functional” set fandom all aflutter. At least the female, and probably quite a few of the male, fans. There were perks to having someone who wasn’t limited by our human needs for things like food and sleep.

Robots, and androids, have long remained figures of imagination. From the Jetsons to the work being done in Japan with robotics, finding a robot to provide companionship, not just do menial tasks, is at the forefront. There is interesting, if not exciting, work with robots being able to remind disabled or elderly persons to take their medications, as well as provide assistance when necessary. When not doing so, they provide companionship, and that’s important.

In the context of the book…why an android? For me I wanted to be fun. Yes, I was playing with the idea of being abducted by aliens, swept away to a life far different from our own here on Earth. And yet, the more some things change, the more they stay the same. And if someone has to be swept away from Earth by an android, at least in this case he is more than “fully functional”.

Abducted_AderaOrfanelli_coverlgGetting abducted by a hunky android wasn’t on Jacey’s list of things to do to try and reclaim her life after the death of her best friend and the loss of their business. But when her car crashes during a storm, she’s saved not by any rescue vehicle, but by Aiden Starsek, the Lord of BelaZed who informs her that he must have a wife or face deactivation. Jacey blames herself for her friend’s death. If she can stop another one, even if it means giving up everything she’s ever known, she will.
Aidan knows Deactivation Day nears and unless he’s able to find a human to love him he’ll die.. Unable to find love on his own planet, he discovers the beautiful Jacey on her own world, Earth. Her beauty entices him. Her compassion humbles him. And though in bed their passion is insatiable, he fears that it won’t turn to love in time to save his life. Only her love will save him, not just from Deactivation Day, but also from himself.
