It’s no secret that the appeal of romance is the happily ever after—every hero and heroine is lucky in love. They might go through hell to get there, but there they get. I’ve been blessed in my real life to have about as close to a HEA as it gets.
This summer, I’ll celebrate my 17th anniversary. And while it hasn’t always been sunshine and roses, nor do I expect to be that way forever, I most definitely got lucky in love with my husband. That rock solid relationship makes it so much more fun to write.
I write erotic paranormal romance, and while I like to make things hot, I firmly believe that humor is just as sexy as chiseled abs and good technique in the bedroom. Humor and play is what makes the HEA possible in real life, because if I couldn’t laugh off the little things and giggle with my partner, I’d have a hard time maintaining the intimacy and openness needed for the long haul. I want all my characters to make it for the long haul. And even a little pinching on St. Patrick’s Day can be fun–whether you forget to wear green or not. 😉
What about you? Do you think humor is a key to making relationships work?

Chloe can “talk” to animals…so why can she hear the thoughts of this hot, green-eyed man?
Abandoned by her mother and raised by a father who’d given up on life, Chloe doesn’t let anyone get close. Lucky for her, she can communicate with animals—telepathically. Animals are the only people she needs. When a suspected dogfighting ring comes to her attention, Chloe decides to do a little spying. In her rush to win the dogs’ trust, she almost gets caught.
Until a sexy stranger intervenes, and she finds she can overhear his thoughts. She’s never been able to hear people, and this man’s about as sexy as she’s ever seen. It’s more than intellectual curiosity that drives her to discover his secret: he’s a jaguar shape-shifter, and the presence of this cat among the dogs might be a bit too much to handle. But the animal attraction is just too hot to resist, and the passion between them makes both the sparks—and the fur—fly…
He purrs and moans as I come slowly back up, grazing his hard penis with my hands as I rise. He lets me turn him so he faces me, then I back him toward the bed and give a playful push. He falls back, grinning. He puts one hand behind his head and gives me a smoldering look as he crooks a finger on his free hand and beckons me onto him.
“You’re such a pushover.” I straddle him.
“Only for you, sweet Chloe.” He grins wickedly. “Now I think it’s only fair you show some skin too.”
“Oh, yeah? What if I just want to pet you?”
A bit of the cat gleams in his eyes. “But I want to see your beautiful flesh. I want to play with you too.”
“Hmm, when you put it like that.” I lift my shirt over my head and fling it off the bed.
He sits up rapidly, leaning to lick along my collar bone as he undoes my bra. “Tasty.” His whisper makes me shiver.
He chuckles and the rumble feels decadent as he takes one breast into his mouth, teasing the nipple with his tongue. My hips start to swivel, my need for sensation growing. I run my fingers through his hair, throwing my head back to press my breasts into his kiss. Trailing kisses across my chest, he mumbles, “You are most definitely my catnip.”
