Book Spotlight + contest: Love Refocused by Nancy Corrigan #RHACafe

It’s my week to host some of my fellow Red Hot Authors Cafe authors. Up today is Nancy Corrigan with a hot release from Loose ID. Plus a contest, so keep reading for your chance to win! Check out book 2 of her Sander’s Valley series:

Wyn Sander is surprised when his brother Kyle asks him to be best man at his wedding. Wyn’s even more shocked to learn the woman who later walks into his garage is Ronnie’s half-sister, Iona. He’s instantly attracted to her. She’s sophisticated, beautiful, and confident. At least she is until Wyn stands up. She flinches and a look of terror passes over her face. It bothers him to see. Luckily, desire replaces it, but it doesn’t stop Wyn’s curiosity. For the first time in his life, he wants to find out what made Iona fearful and fix it.

Iona can’t believe her luck. The man she lusts after is her new sister’s soon to be brother-in-law. The kiss they share shatters her, but her attempt to stop any involvement with him ends up with her agreeing to three dates. She decides Wyn is unlike any man she’s ever known, and it’s unfortunate she can’t enjoy him. She isn’t in the market for a boyfriend. All she wants is sex. The only problem is—she doesn’t think Wyn sees things her way.

She jerked her hand from his. “Where are we going?”

“Basement. Need you.” He reached for her.

She backed up. “We can’t. Your mom—”

He drew her against him. “You feel that? How hard I am?”

A soft sigh escaped her lips, his only answer.

He brushed his fingertip across them. “I ache, darling.”

She turned her head and sucked one of his fingers into her mouth. The tug connected with his balls. He wrenched his finger free and cupped her face between his hands. “I’m going to take you downstairs and fuck you, Iona. Hard and fast.” Her eyes widened. He loved the shock displayed in them. He brushed his lips over hers. “Then tonight, you’re coming home with me, and I’m going to love you real slow, until you beg me to fill you up.”

She shook her head. “No sleepovers. No commitments. I told you that. Besides, your mom is picking me up early. We’re going shopping.”

Her words danced through his head. Disappointment hit first, then excitement flared. “You didn’t say no to now.”

She swallowed hard. “I don’t know. I want you, but…”

“But what?”

She glanced in the direction of the living room. “What if somebody walks in on us? Your family will assume we’re in a relationship.”

“Nobody will catch us.” With a single finger, he turned her face toward him. “Do you trust me?”

Her cautious nod answered him.

“Good.” That was all he needed to know. He lifted her, a hand on her bottom.

“Wyn—”

He nipped her lip. “Quiet. We only have a few minutes.” He pulled the basement door shut behind them and turned the lock. “And I’m not wasting them talking.”

“You’re serious.” Her whisper matched her widened eyes.

He hurried down the stairs and dropped her bottom on the back of the sofa. “Yeah. I don’t think I’ll survive a whole day without you.”

She clutched at his shirt. “Oh.”

One word. Damn he loved how she reacted to him. He popped the button on her shorts and tugged the zipper. She lifted her bottom. No hesitation. No denial. He held her acceptance close.

“Next time, I’ll worship you. Head to toe. Eat you out. Lick your breasts. Give you everything.” Hand fisted around her waistband, he glanced at her. “You want that?”

She nodded. “Yes. I want.”

“Good, but tonight I need you. Just like this.”

About the Author

A true romantic at heart, Nancy Corrigan is convinced there’s a knight in shining armor for every woman (or man), but you won’t find damsels in distress in her stories. She adores pairing alpha heroes with women strong enough to match them and bring them to their knees. She also enjoys flipping the traditional roles in romances because her motto is—love and people should never be forced to conform to anyone’s norm.

She holds a degree in chemistry and has worked in research but now focuses on ensuring quality. She considers it the perfect outlet for her as she’s the first to admit she has some OCD tendencies. It carries over into her writing life too. While engrossed in a novel, she has a habit of forgetting to eat and sleep. Fortunately, she’s married to her own knight in shining armor who understands her oddities and loves her anyway. They reside in Pennsylvania with their three children, dog, snake and guinea pigs. Her other interests include tattoos, animals, classic cars and all things spooky and sexy.

Review: Old West fun in Much Ado about Miners

Jacquie Rogers brings a bit of humor and love to the Old West in Much Ado about Miners. This is the story of Iris and Kade, who knew each other as teenagers and are brought together later in life.

There was much I really enjoyed about this book. The characters had big personalities–most notably a yellow cat who steals almost every scene he’s in. [And if you know me, you know I love cats in stories. If you haven’t figured that out, look at what I use in place of stars to rank the books I review. ;)] Both Kade and Iris were such likable characters that it was easy to root for them.

The only difficulty I had with this story is that at times I felt like either Kade’s or Iris’ wacky plans seemed to change and I didn’t follow why or how exactly. It just suddenly was, and I was left wondering if I missed something, which could’ve been the case a time or two, but it was enough that I doubted it was just my faulty brain.

And once, the cat was called by the dog’s name. Them there are fightin’ words in my book. 😉

Overall, this was a fun book. I give it a solid 3.5 cat kisses.

Cupid’s blindfold…

About the Author

I’m a former software designer, campaign manager, deli clerk, and cow milker, but always a bookworm. Reading is my passion—westerns, fantasies, historicals of any era, all with a splash of humor and a dash of romance.

While I’m a country girl by birth, I currently live in suburbia with my very patient husband where we’re humble servants of The Cat Annie.  I don’t think you can ever take the country out of a girl’s heart, though, which is why my stories often take place in Idaho where I grew up. (Hearts of Owyhee series and some of my short stories, too.)

Guest Post: Favorite Pets…by JM Stewart

Today I’m happy to welcome author JM Stewart, who’s talking about one of my favorite topics: pets!

Thanks for having me, Katya!

When pondering the topic for today’s blog, Katya was kind enough to give me a list of topics that are popular with her readers. Since I think I must be the only writer in the world who doesn’t have a favorite word (I know, I know, strange right?)…I thought I’d share my fur babies with you all.

Now, I can’t begin without introducing you to miss Ruby Jewels. She’s been gone probably close to four years now, but I still miss her very much. I think she’s still with us in spirit. Every once in a while, out the corner of my eye, I still think I see her coming up the hallway.

We got her from another family when she was 5. She was a German Shepherd/Husky mix and the family we got her from said if we were looking for a guard dog, she wasn’t it. Boy were they right. She was afraid of everything. lol She loved kids, though. She often got out of the backyard, and you’d find her around the corner hanging out with the neighbor’s kids. Every Halloween, she’d help me greet the kids at the door. She died at the ripe old age of 14, so she lived a good long life.

When Ruby died, she left a big hole. Six months later, we decided we wanted to fill it. So, we scoured the local shelters and came across this girl. This is Misty. She’s a lab/shepherd mix, and what I didn’t know about the breed when I got her was how energy they were. This dog has grasshopper legs. Can jump straight up and look over the 6 foot privacy fence in the backyard. 🙂

She’s the sweetest thing you’ll ever meet. She greets us like she hasn’t seen us in forever…even if you’ve only been in the shower for 20 minutes. She has a scary sounding bark, has stopped more than a few would-be solicitors in their tracks several feet from the door, but she’s only scary from this side of the door. Open that door and come inside and she’ll high-tail in the opposite direction. 🙂

And last but not least is Tiger. We got her from a shelter also. She’s a Chihuahua/French Bulldog mix and was all of 2.5 pounds when we got her. Tiger is the queen of this house. She’s very smart, and very stubborn. She does what you want…if it suits her. lol She wants to be wherever you are, preferably in your lap, so she’ll often follow me around the house (yup, including into the bathroom). When she wants you to pet her, she’ll reach out a paw and pull at your hand.

But she’s my hubby’s girl. Her favorite place in the whole world is in his arms (who can blame her?). She insists on snuggle time every day when he gets home from work, and he does anything she tells him to. lol

So those are my babies. Tell me about yours!

About the author:

JM writes passionate, heartfelt contemporary romance. She’s a wife, a mother, a spiritualist, and lover of puppies, and happily addicted to coffee and chocolate. She lives in the rainy Pacific Northwest with her husband and two sons. She’s a hopeless romantic who believes everybody should have their happily-ever-after and has been devouring romance novels for as long as she can remember. Writing them has become her obsession.

Review: Amelia Grey’s latest historical a winner

I’ve got one more review in my queue before my break, and this one was an all around pleasure…

The Duke in My Bed is a lovely historical romance. I really enjoyed Bray and Louisa’s story. There are some surprising twists and turns, and the main characters’ growth on their path to love is generally well-paced and believable. A few times I wanted them to get on with it, but not so often that I ever felt truly annoyed. The secondary characters, especially Louisa’s sisters, add depth to the story.

This the first book I’ve read by Ms. Grey and I will certainly be looking up more. The Duke in My Bed releases at the end of December. If you like historicals, go preorder it now. I give this book 4.5 cat kisses.
