Something’s wrong… #MSS49

This week’s My Sexy Saturday focuses on heroines. This snippet is from To Hiss or to Kiss, book 1 of the Hidden Lines series. It’s currently on sale for 99 cents. All three books of Chloe and Jorge’s story are now available.

I remember the day I knew my dad had resigned himself to the fact that my mother wasn’t coming back. It was about two years after she left. There was an open house at my school to kick off the new year. I had a teacher who was new to the district, and she was introducing herself to all the parents. When she got to my dad, she asked if she’d also be meeting my mother. My father paled but managed to answer with a shaky no.

The teacher tried to cover her gaffe, but being forced to say out loud that my mother wasn’t in our lives was a turning point for my dad. After that, he became a ghost. He always took care of my physical needs. I was never hungry or denied rides to extracurricular activities. He came to all my tennis matches. But he was never really there.

When I finally fall asleep, I dream my mother is trying to smother me with a pillow. My dad watches, eyes forlorn.

I awake with a start. My first thought is that I wish Jorge would have come crashing into my dream to save me. I glance over at his sleeping form. His T-shirt is twisted, revealing the shadows of his rippling abs in the moonlight.

With tentative hands, I reach out and lightly stroke his bare skin. He shudders at my touch, and I start to recoil.

His hand moves lightning quick to stop me, and I look up into his penetrating green eyes.

“You OK?” He is surprisingly alert for just having woken. Then again, cats do wake up pretty fast if they think something’s wrong.

An old family tradition #MSS48

Today for My Sexy Saturday, I’m going back to book 1 of my Hidden Lines series, To Hiss or to Kiss. This is where Chloe and Jorge’s story began.

“I want to revive an old tradition from my family for our dinner. I’ll buy a bagful of ingredients, and you have to work them all into the meal. No planning ahead.”

“I have to do that and meet your best friend, who sounds a little scary-protective based on what you’ve told me, at the same time? You ask a lot, my dear.” He puts his hand over his heart as if he’ll faint, but the slight smile on his lips tells me he’s being overly dramatic.

“Like you can talk about being scary protective. You and Naomi should get along just fine on that count. And yes, that’s the deal.”

Can be? Horny Hump Day #1

I’m trying my very first Horny Hump Day post today. Three sentences to whet your appetite…

Jorge moans deep in his throat as my breasts brush against his erection. “Yes, I concede that having control can be overrated.”

“Can be?”

Chloe can “talk” to animals…so why can she hear the thoughts of this hot, green-eyed man?

Abandoned by her mother and raised by a father who’d given up on life, Chloe doesn’t let anyone get close. Lucky for her, she can communicate with animals—telepathically. Animals are the only people she needs. When a suspected dogfighting ring comes to her attention, Chloe decides to do a little spying. In her rush to win the dogs’ trust, she almost gets caught.

Until a sexy stranger intervenes, and she finds she can overhear his thoughts. She’s never been able to hear people, and this man’s about as sexy as she’s ever seen. It’s more than intellectual curiosity that drives her to discover his secret: he’s a jaguar shape-shifter, and the presence of this cat among the dogs might be a bit too much to handle. But the animal attraction is just too hot to resist, and the passion between them makes both the sparks—and the fur—fly…

Tell Me Why You Love to Kiss

Click the logo to visit other participating blogs!

No one knows for sure why people kiss. Some say it’s instinctual, pointing to the kissing behavior of certain animals as proof of this theory. Others says it’s learned behavior–after all, only about 90% of the world’s cultures participate in the activity of making out. The most commonly held scientific theory is that the close contact let’s us smell out the pheromones of our partner. The right pheromones equals the right mate or the wrong mate.

So what do you think? Why do you kiss? I’m guessing a lot of people just do it because it’s fun. Leave a comment for a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card. Use the Rafflecopter link below to enter for the grand prizes!

Excerpt from To Hiss or to Kiss:

He purrs and moans as I come slowly back up, grazing his hard penis with my hands as I rise. He lets me turn him so he faces me, then I back him toward the bed and give a playful push. He falls back, grinning. He puts one hand behind his head and gives me a smoldering look as he crooks a finger on his free hand and beckons me onto him.

“You’re such a pushover.” I straddle him.

“Only for you, sweet Chloe.” He grins wickedly. “Now I think it’s only fair you show some skin too.”

“Oh, yeah? What if I just want to pet you?”

A bit of the cat gleams in his eyes. “But I want to see your beautiful flesh. I want to play with you, too.”

“Hmm, when you put it like that.” I lift my shirt over my head and fling it off the bed.

He sits up rapidly, leaning to lick along my collar bone as he undoes my bra. “Tasty.” His whisper makes me shiver.

“Like catnip?”

He chuckles and the rumble feels decadent as he takes one breast into his mouth, teasing the nipple with his tongue. My hips start to swivel, my need for sensation growing. I run my fingers through his hair, throwing my head back to press my breasts into his kiss. Trailing kisses across my chest, he mumbles, “You are most definitely my catnip.”

“Glad to know I get you high.” I can barely manage the joking tone, given the way my body is reacting to his touch.

He pulls back and I meet his gaze. “In more ways than one.” He grins, flexing his penis a bit to emphasize.

I start giggling and he reaches to undo my pants.

He spies the boxers I borrowed this morning. “Already helping yourself, I see.” He dips his fingers below the waistline.

“I figured you wouldn’t mind.”

“Does this mean I get to keep your panties?”

I swat at him, giggling. “Pervert.”

At that he flips me onto my back with what appears to be very little effort, making me gasp as he efficiently strips me of pants and boxers in one fell swoop. “Now we’re even.” His eyes drink me in with so much heat I clench my thighs, my hips rising slightly off the bed. “God, you’re beautiful.” He leans down over me, his skin a fire along my body.

I push his shoulder lightly. “Hey, I was supposed to be the one in charge this time.”

He growls a little while kissing my neck.

“Is that a no to me being in charge?” I want to sound annoyed, but his tongue hits a sensitive spot behind my ear and it comes out as more of a moan.

“Doesn’t sound like you mind too much.” He sounds a little too satisfied.

I take the moment of distraction to wrap a leg around his and use my hip as a fulcrum as I put everything I have into a shoulder shove.

He at least moves a bit.

He chuckles, and I swat at him.

“This is not funny.”

He leans back so I can see the amusement in his face. “I kind of think it is.”

“Oh, yeah?” I reach down to squeeze his penis. He gasps, and I take that moment to complete a flip. “Just needed the proper distraction.” I move my hands up to his chest and kiss the soft curls that spread across his pecs.

“You play dirty.” His hands cup my butt. “No fair.” He groans as I gently bite his nipple.

“Now who doesn’t seem to mind too much?” I kiss my way down his torso.

Writing about pets and real life inspiration

I’m visiting The Snarkology as part of The Write Pet series. Here’s the beginning of the story…

In my first novel, To Hiss or to Kiss, the heroine communicates with animals telepathically. She has two cats, and one is based on my cat, Sundance. Unfortunately, we lost Sundance a year ago—and just a few weeks before the book released. My husband and I miss him terribly, but he will live on in my book in some of the mannerisms of Chloe’s cat Enoki. The book is dedicated to him. Enoki is a mainstay character in the next two books in my Hidden Lines series. <a href="In my first novel, To Hiss or to Kiss, the heroine communicates with animals telepathically.
